Na Tri Sithean submitted by h_fenton on 18th Aug 2011. Na Tri Sithean - chambered long horned cairn dating from the Neolithic, this particular cairn is one of the largest and the best preserved of its type. It measures 32m long, 9.7 metres wide and 1.2 metres high. The ends of the cairn grow into large mounds, the larger mound at the southeast end is 21.3metres wide and 3 metres high, the smaller mound at the northwestern end is 18 metres wide and 2.1metres high. The south (uphill) side of the henge is the most clearly visible here because the ground is generally poorly drained while the banks are well drained resulting in a difference in vegetation. There are drainage ditches alongside the road which stop the water making a vegetation difference on the north (downhill) side of the road. There appears to be some sort of square structure based around a courtyard, possibly with robbed out walls which have been excavated (leaving narrow straight linear trenches) also looks like some of the cells around the courtyard have been excavated. Anyone know any more?

Parthenon submitted by h_fenton on 29th Mar 2008. One of the better preserved scenes shown on the Elgin Marbles which were removed from the Parthenon in the Early 19th Century. in the British Museum. South Metope XXXI Centaur and Lapith tussle like wrestlers. The centaur has his opponent by the throat, while the Lapith attempts to fend him off with a fist and a knee.
