Cranken Courtyard Houses submitted by h_fenton on 14th May 2010. Cranken Courtyard House 1, Grid Reference: SW 4607 3424
A vertical Kite Aerial Photograph, the aerial photograph does not really do the site justice, although it is true to say there is not much to see here. The photo was taken in early April, before the fresh growth of bracken obscures everything. The top of the photograph is aligned to roughly north. Just above the centre of the photo is a dark patch this is a small stone chamber (possibly modern) at the northern side of the house.

Country: England (Cornwall)

Bosullow Trehyllys Settlement submitted by h_fenton on 17th May 2010. Although it is not much to look at this is a Kite Aerial Photograph of an iron age courtyard house at Bosullow Trehyllys.
10 April 2010
---
Bosullow Trehyllys is a small village of Courtyard Houses, in terms of preservation it is considered to be second only to the nearby ancient village of Chysauster. The biggest difference is that Bosullow Trehyllys remains unexcavated. Today this site is grazed by horses (04/2010).

Cockit Hill submitted by h_fenton on 7th Aug 2010. Cockit Hill (promontory fort/enclosure) viewed from the south. In the foreground the bank is visible by the fact that the heather is flowering on it. beyond the bank the interpretation of the fort is that it only extends around the nearest rock outcrops.
To the right of the picture a path comes up the hillside to the end of the rampart/bank - there appears to be some small steps cut into the rock here so that it is easier to climb up onto the top of the spur, it also looks like there has b...

Drumtroddan Cup and Ring Markings submitted by h_fenton on 25th Sep 2010. A Kite Aerial Photograph of the main outcrop at Drumtroddan, although the outcrop is larger and the rockart goes beyond the extent of this photograph I have cropped the picture to what was visible at this early time of day.

Log Text: Visited this site in the morning with strong low sunlight which was fantastic for showing up the cup and ring marks. I stayed for a while as the sun rose, highlighting further cup and ring marks. Unfenced out in the field a short distance to the west of the main group a few more ring marks were visible where the grass has worn away.
With the permission of the farmer, I flew my kite here to take some aerial photographs of the rock art. There were a couple of cows in the field but they were only mildly interested in what I was doing.
Wildshaw Burn

Country: Scotland (South Lanarkshire)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Sep 2010. My rating: Ambience 3 Access 3

Wildshaw Burn submitted by h_fenton on 4th Dec 2010. One of the more prominent stones at Wildshaw Burn Stone Circle.
23 September 2010 @ 6.42am

Log Text: Visited Wildshaw Burn stone circle as it was getting light, occasionaly surrounded by hill fog; the ground oozing water after heavy overnight rain. Most of the stones (I found 22) were submerged in puddles, a few others above the peaty ground were lying on their sides. Apart from a lost pair of glasses there were no obvious signs of modern human activity on the site - but still it was not exactly serene, on one side there is the hum of great electricity pylons and the other the M74 motorway.
Not the easiest site to find, but it is where it is marked on the map

I tried to fly the kite here but the wind was too inconsistent to safely get the camera high enough. Here instead of a kite I used a carp fishing pole, with a camera attachment on the end to lift my camera higher (6-7 metres).

Knock Rock Art (1)

Country: Scotland (Dumfries and Galloway)
Visited: Yes on 1st Oct 2010

Knock Rock Art (1) submitted by h_fenton on 1st Oct 2010. Knock 1. below the Gavin Maxwell otter memorial.
A week or so before the autumn equinox shortly after sunrise a finger like shadow of the piece of rock on the outcrop passed right through the centre of the cup and ring mark. Because the light was low it was difficult to effectively photograph.
I waited until the sun was a little higher and brighter then I put my finger close to the lump on the rock that casts the shadow - to indicate the shadow across the circle. At one point the end...
