Llyn Barfog Stone
Date Added: 27th Mar 2024
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: Wales (Gwynedd)
Visited: Yes on 27th Mar 2024

Llyn Barfog Stone submitted by Geraint1 on 28th Mar 2024. This stone at 6520 9864 does have a few neighbours. This one seems a little smaller and is 80%covered in vegetation. There are other smaller stones, all vegetated over, higher up the slope below an outcrop. This stone could possibly be the menhir referred to but the position recorded incorrectly.
I'm undecided whether this stone looks more likely naturally deposited or sited here by human hand.

Log Text: This stone may not exist. At the coordinates given there is no stone. There is a stone approximately 40m west from the stated position but this stone does look more likely to be naturally deposited, taking into consideration an adjacent outcrop with many similar sized stones.
There is another possible candidate approximately 40m south of the stated position. This stone does look as though it may possibly be a standing stone. This stone is at the path 'T' junction. There is another stone of similar size approximately 10m to its east that is covered in vegetation. There are several more smaller stones below an adjacent outcrop. It does look as though it could have become deposited naturally, although equally it could have been stood there. I'll upload a couple of pics of this stone given it does seem a more likely candidate for being this particular menhir but it may well be just another stone.
