G1 Noordlaren
Date Added: 25th Jun 2012
Site Type: Passage Grave
Country: Netherlands (Groningen)
Visited: Would like to visit

G1 Noordlaren submitted by Sunflowerbird on 9th Mar 2005. Noordlaren
Just over the border from Drenthe into Groningen province lies what remains of the G1 hunebed at Noordlaren. Actually, its just outside the village down a well signposted track in a small copse on the edge of wide fields. What's left is possibly only 15% of the original hunebed and is pretty impressive in its own right.

Country: New Zealand

Te Punga a Matori submitted by DrewParsons on 24th Nov 2008. Te Punga a Matori - the anchor stone from the ancestral Tokomaru Canoe. The Tokomaru was one of a number of ocean going canoes which carried Maoris to New Zealand around 800 years ago. There are conflicting stories surrounding the commander of the Tokomaru, one has Manaia as its commander and another has Whata. It carried the peoples who form the tribes around Mt Taranaki also known as Mt Egmont. The anchor stone is housed in New Plymouth's city museum.
