Log Text: in the ignorance and folly of youth i was just a passenger in a car passing, betwixt music festivals. we stopped. this was before any fences. I attempted to climb the gradient, and managed about 10 feet. it seemed very precipitous. No-one laughed at my failure to scale the slope as they had attempted nothing. i have no idea who i was with, where i had come from and where i was going. ay. viva la 1971

A straight walk up the hill along a rough track after passing through two metal gates. Continue on up and the circle is on left hand side. You won't be disappointed.

Log Text: Lovely ring cairn with stunning long distance views to nww Fader Goch? and to nee .
On a hill about half way up to the peak at Cader Bronwen on the north west slope.
41 stones from 1 foot to 2.5 ft high. Two gaps with small stones in them maybe had larger ones in once.
The large (fallen?) outlier is to the south west? not ne
A slow slog for an old un from Llandrillo but a great walk -saw some small bouncy deer (maybe muntjac).

Log Text: not far to walk from Chapel lawn, but steep. the ditches/ramparts are deep and high and in very good condition. a bit of wow factor. the entrances are well preserved. a sloping site enclosure. well worth the climb

not protected and unfortunately the footpath goes right over it. so is eroding.

After 14 years of researching the site I finally got the one image I really wanted. Almost perfect weather, yet I was the only one there to observe sunrise on this Spring Equinox of 2025, except for a local couple doing a morning walk, who caught up with me walking down the track back to my car. Log Text: a fair hike to the summit (Rodneys pillar which sadly has been condemned as too decrepid to repair) took me 3 hours and only 1 1/4 to come down. great long distance views from top. the ramparts are mostly in woodland but the main entrance can be seen as the path goes through it. the full size of them can only be appreciated by a visit-they stretch about a mile from NE to SW on the SE side.
quite an awesome build.

Beeston Castle submitted by vicky on 7th Jun 2002. The entrance to Beeston Castle in Cheshire where a 13th Century Castle was built on top of an Iron Age hillfort (GR: SJ538592 ). Excavations in 1978 revealed that the Medieval wall of this outer gateway was constructed on top of a prehistoric rampart with external ditch and counterscarp bank.
Prehistoric artefacts including bronze axes and implements, clay moulds and crucibles for casting bronze and a large amount of prehistoric pottery have been on the site of this 4 hectare hillfort.

Log Text: you have to be a tourist for this one-National trust. some deep ditches/high banks. models in the visitor centre show the development of the site from Bronze age -Iron age to medieval. a proper good palimpset. they sell fruit wines and spirits in the shop very yummy. very long distance views from the top.

Log Text: forestry has been felled and replanted (native species i think) so its all more open. a very similar site to Tomnaverie: on a hill with some long distance views to south and west. some impressively large stones. another banked kerbed circle. the kerb is a mixture of pink granite and white stones. must have looked striking when first built.

Log Text: One stone is missing, and a couple may be in the wrong position. a good circle though. the flankers are smart.
The blurb on the board says 'RSCs are on crests of hills with a southerly views'.
But.. Midmar is below the crest and has a long view down the valley easterly!
Ones on tops of hills have 360 degree views (eg Tomnaverie, Aikey )
The recumbents are all on the southern quarter.

Log Text: Apart from the toppled over recumbent, Sunhoney has all its stones still standing. The tall pointy ones are to the south and the shorter northern stones are flat square. There is a lot of pink granite in the local field walls.
There are also some grey/green stones outside the western stones, possibly field clearance.
