Colchester Castle Museum submitted by Thorgrim on 7th Jun 2004. The museum is housed in the Norman keep of Colchester Castle which is "the largest keep in existence" (Pevsner). It is considerably larger than the White Tower of London, but most of its facing of septaria and ashlar has been stolen revealing the rubble core with very many Roman bricks. The museum collection is beautifully presented and contains flint tools from the Palaeolithic through to the late Neolithic.
