Rollright Stones

Rollright Stones submitted by Energyman on 21st Dec 2020. This was the closest the weather forecast would allow me to get to this year's solstice sunrise, 20/12/20 8:30am. Luckily very little cloud. The shot is from the altar as I call it, through the entrance at the King's Men, Rollrights. This alignment was calculated by Jack Morris Eyton, though he never got the chance to confirm it.

Presaddfed

Presaddfed submitted by pab on 25th Sep 2012. Presaddfed, September 2012 Timber support which features in most photos on Portal has now been removed, so the more southerly chamber looks even better. Delightful location - the walk over the field feels more like a procession, with the chambers looking more impressive all the time.

Plas Newydd Burial Chamber

Plas Newydd Burial Chamber submitted by angela on 10th Jun 2002. Plas Newydd If you are visiting Bryn Celli Ddu on Anglesey it is worth looking at this Burial Chamber site as it is nearby at SH 520 697. Coming from the bridge on the A4080 after about 2 miles take the left turn a few metres before the left turn to the National Trust car park for Plas Newydd. This lane has a blue private sign but this is for the centre down there. After a short distance you will see the tomb on the right in a field. This photo was from a winter visit and it was a quiet frosty ...

Pentre Ifan

Pentre Ifan submitted by Horatio on 22nd Jun 2020. A year later and back at Pentre Ifan for the solstice sunset, all on my own some (apart from a 13yr old Jack Russell this time) I Was expecting at least to see one other (person not Jack Russell) at this site for the sunset. That morning I'd gone to see the sunrise at Gors Fawr stone circle and even left my house in the rain knowing there was zero chance of seeing a sunrise, I definitely was not disappointed, crap weather but I enjoyed being amongst the stones as the solstice sun rose, the cu...

Ox Low

Ox Low submitted by twentytrees on 7th Jun 2006. A rare Oval barrow 19.5x12m located on a shelf of land below Bradwell Moor looking west between Ox Low hill and Eldon Hill, to the barrow on Gautries Hill. Oval barrows are usually dated to the Neolithic although finds of a boar's tusk and perforated stone hammer suggest this one was reused in the Bronze Age.

Oldox Camp submitted by Bladup on 22nd Apr 2013. There are 2 humps here that seem like the natural entrance to Oxton camp, the one in the picture is the slightly bigger one [called Robin Hood's Pot] and the start of the other is going out the photo on the left, I think they're natural but one has a little barrow on it.
