Log Text: The complex is easily accessible and very well preserved. Unfortunately, the end of the tumulus is missing, so that the feeling of a burial chamber would arise.

Lundum Gammelmand Runddysse submitted by holger_rix on 18th Jun 2011. A free standing Burial Chamber 'Gammelmand' (= 'Old Man')
on a Round Barrow called 'Skanhøj'.
The chamber is approx. 1.4 m high from the ground and built of
2 side Stones, 1 end stone to N. and 1 threshold stone against S.;
the both side and end stones slope inwards.
Chamber is covered with a capstone that is quite smooth on the
underside and has a slight crack across the middle.

Log Text: Definite recommendation from me to visit this museum. It is simply impressive both in terms of the type of exhibition and the technical (and flawless) scope. The large number of rune stones drew me here and I ended up in the museum for over 3 hours!

It is one of Denmarks most famous megalithic tombs: It even was depicted on the 50 kroner-banknote. Some barrow kerbstones are also visible on this picture [April 1992]. Scan from old diapositive, sorry for bad quality.

Log Text: Totally in love with this site as the ambiance is so beautiful. If it hadn't been so windy, I would definitely have stayed longer. The grave is well preserved as a dolmen, although the tumulus can still be seen to some extent.

Log Text: Absolutely overwhelming in its size and a nice end to my day tour. Made a little picnic here for myself before heading back to the accommodation. The long barrow is simply gigantic compared to German megalithic tombs.

The three graves found in Borum Eshøj is the best preserved oak chests in Denmark. About 1871 the barrow was excavated and three oak coffins was discovered containing an old woman, an young man and a old man. The oak chests is dated to about 1350 BC. During the excavation most of the soil was removed. The original size was 7 x 40 meter. Now 3 meter steel strips mark the original circumference. It has been one of Denmark´s largest burial mounds.
