Klein Stavern Steingrab 5
Date Added: 30th Apr 2022
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: Germany (Lower Saxony, Bremen)
Visited: Yes on 30th Apr 2022. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 4

Klein Stavern Steingrab 5 submitted by Martin_L on 19th Jan 2009. Standing at tombs' eastern end looking towards west. The destruction of this monument fortunately was stopped, but half of the kerbstones are missing. Others have drill-holes to blow them to pieces. Most of the remaining kerbstones are fallen. Possible this is a result of activities to remove them and/or prepare them for blasting (April 2008)

Gross Berssen Steingrab 7 submitted by RunaStera on 3rd May 2004. The 7th and last megalithic grave on a nice weather motorcycle-tour on 1st of May. This one was renewed in 1958. It is situated in a 24m long and 20m wide mound. During first systematic excavations in 1956 were found 330 ceramics of baker culture, 22 flint-arrowheads, more stonetools and a flat copper-disc.
This megatlithic grave is in a short distance to the "King's Grave".

Log Text: This reconstructed megalithic tomb shows visitors what the tombs once looked like. Simply wonderful, since many consider the stones - the skeletons of the tumuli as it were - to be the 'normal' appearance of megalithic complexes.

The inner width of the chamber is 15m x max 1.5m. The oval stonecircle is 22m long and 10m wide. A perfect example of an "Emsland Chamber Grave", missing only a few stones. The direction of the grave is about 274°.

Laehden Steingrab 1 submitted by Martin_L on 17th Jul 2011. Pole aerial view from the NW. Skeleton of a neolithic passage grave of Drenthe/Emsland-type. Although many stones are robbed and several of the remaining are out of place this is a fantastic and important site: 23m x 3m chamber originally covered by at least 15 capstones and surrounded by an extremely rare double oval enclosure. The enclosure is partly well preserved on the North-eastern long side. Capstones C1 (counting from the NW), C7, C12, C14 and C15 are missing.

Hoststeine submitted by Martin_L on 12th Feb 2011. The site viewed from the West. February 2011.
Sprockhoff identified 4 orthostats and one capstone [1]. He mentioned a total number of eight preserved megaliths + fragments. The structure was already destroyed when Wächter examined it [1], [2]. Despite this damages Sprockhoff assumed the original ground-plan could be clarified by an excavation.
