Church Hole

Church Hole submitted by baz on 9th Aug 2006. The cave art is difficult to photograph in the semi-darkness. This bas-relief is described as a bird's head with a long, curved bill. I see a bird with a fish hanging from its beak.

Log Text: I first visited here in about 1999. At the at time you could walk on the long barrow, and there was no fence. In recent years there has been a fence put up and it is very over grown with shrubs and trees . There is also a fairly detailed information sign with a diagram of the barrow. however even that is now overgrown with brambles. Shame. Better to cut it all down so it can be seen. Its hard to photograph.

Log Text: quite easy to find taking footpath up hill. There is definitely more than one spring
and the one under the Devils pulpit (St Helens) was flowing well. The resultant stream goes through houses gardens and through the village. Also saw the Maypole

if smeone on here identified the originals though its pretty obvious on colour and closer inspection. Still be good to know if they were in situ

Roughting Linn Rock Art

Roughting Linn Rock Art submitted by TimPrevett on 25th Apr 2015. BBC Countryfile will have a feature with Roughting Linn on 3rd May 2015 - at least that's what they told us when we stumbled upon them filming there during the Easter Holidays. An emphasis on the sound at Rock Art sites in their feature explains the nice parabolic microphone!

Temple Wood S submitted by funsize on 4th Jun 2007. This is a cracking site. Large cobble mound with slivers of upright slabs and a central cist. Very accessible and one of many impressive sites within a small area of the Kilmartin Valley. This shows the larger cairn, there is a smaller one ringed by trees a stones throw to the south west.
