Hanging Stones Rock

Hanging Stones Rock submitted by rich32 on 6th Mar 2005. Hanging Stones Quarry, Ilkely Moor, West Yorkshire This site confuses me a little, you have 2 fairly large flat panels of rock with various carvings, ranging from simple cup markings to the more elaborate design you see in this photo. The confusing bit is the different amounts of erosion on carvings that are within a few feet of each other, some are nearly completely worn, others still quite clear & sharp. Of course this could be down to erosion from the massing hoards feet & the original dep...

Glovershaw Farm 06

Glovershaw Farm 06 submitted by Rich32 on 27th May 2018. Undoubtedly, the best new find of the CSI Rombalds Moor Project, found on what was meant to be the last day of recording. Referenced 'Glovershaw Farm 06' on England's Rock Art database. A spectacular carving with cups, grooves, rings, tooling marks and probable plough strikes. It was moved to its current position from a nearby field in recent times. Kerloas menhir

Kerloas menhir submitted by thecaptain on 23rd Jun 2006. This is the biggest standing menhir in Europe, if not the world, at nearly 10 metres tall, and has lost the top 2 metres after a lightning strike! The stone, which is not local and has been brought to this hilltop site from more than 2.5 kilometres away, has been beautifully shaped, and tapers both into the ground, and up to a point.

St-Pierre-Quiberon Alignement submitted by thecaptain on 12th Jun 2006. Out on the Quiberon Peninsula, near to the Kerbourgnec cromlech can be found a pleasant little park with the remains of these alignements in it. The stones are of all shapes and sizes, up to 4 metres tall. There's a lovely curved "sharks fin" in front of me as I sat and wrote this, and a diamond to my right. These stones are wonderful, and its lovely to be able to just sit amongst them.

Log Text: First visit after 30 years. Its all more slick now with the visitor centre ( which a tually has very little about the stones, their layout etc. I understood more about the cromlechs - semi circular stone circles at the end of the sets of rows - theres some remaining evidence of them. But would be great to have an idea of how they looked.
