Nun's Well (Cannock Wood)

Nun's Well (Cannock Wood) submitted by TimPrevett on 7th Sep 2008. The site of Nun's Well can be accessed by a permissive path from the north from the car park. It is now sealed off by an old gate, chicken wire, galvanised sheets and earth - right beneath an oak tree. If you look carefully to the north east of the trunk, there is a nook through which you can put your arm and camera, revealing a recessed well housing and the materials which now block it to the front.

Saint Bertram's Cave

Saint Bertram's Cave submitted by TimPrevett on 8th Aug 2006. A view of the cave opening, with hole to wider fissure beyond. Speaking with a Brummie chap who's been coming to the area for some time, and my having left the area, his description of the cave I found didn't match. However, even the Trent & Peak Archaeological Trust couldn't agree on which cave here was the lynx cave in notes on the NMR - so it appears uncertainty is the name of the game.

Sandbach Crosses

Sandbach Crosses submitted by TimPrevett on 25th Mar 2005. The two huge crosses at Sandbach (pronounced sand-batch; most are probably familiar with the Sandbach Services on the M6) ; I've travelled many miles taking in other crosses en route, but these two are as near as on my doorstep, and I'd never visited! The astonishment I felt at their size was in proportion to said size. I wasn't particularly happy with the photos I took on this visit, but having been once and being so close, I'll return, and also for a night shot when they are lit up, hopefull...

Sevenways Cave

Sevenways Cave submitted by TimPrevett on 29th Jul 2006. This is the most picturesque view from one of the many ways into the cave. Seven Ways cave - so named because of 7+ entrances into it. Sited above and to the west of Thor's Cave, it is accessed by returning to the path just before the last descent to access Thor's Cave, and then heading up! Be careful - the drops come up unexpectedly, and there are some *big* drops. Also minor shafts and limestone fissures are not infrequent, so consider your route to avoid a smaller fall. Human remain...
