Log Text: I live nearby. There is a popular local belief that there is a tunnel leading from somewhere close to the chapel into the "old village centre". It is believed that the tunnel was used by the people of the chapel to collect alms from the villagers to give to its diseased charges. The tunnel was supposedly deliberately covered over, at some time in the past, using one of the large granite boulders nearby, as it had become a danger to inquisitive children.
How accurate this is, I have no idea. I mention it as it is a local belief only.

Neet Valley stone, Bude
Date Added: 10th Nov 2015
Site Type: Standing Stone (Menhir)
Country: England (Cornwall)
Visited: Yes on 1st Nov 2015. My rating: Ambience 3 Access 3
Log Text: In the middle of a field on private property. Can be seen from the cycle path but best viewed with binoculars. It's ambiance isn't immediately apparent but if you imagine it in its ancient landscape without any modern influences, then its location and aspect become more like other well known minor sites. The area itself is quite beautiful and there are plenty of well maintained walking and cycling routes along the nearby river and canal. Wheelchair users should have any problems with the river and canal routes.

St Neot's Well (Poundstock) submitted by KiwiBetsy on 16th Oct 2006. The wellhouse sits within a small stone wall enclosure. There are Latin mottoes carved into the edge of the roof and a latticed wooden door. On the front of the wellhouse to the left of the door is a fish that perhaps relates to the legend at St Neot’s other well behind the church in the Cornish village which bears his name (see St Neot's Well (St Neot)). To the right of the door is a Chi Rho symbol, one of the earliest cruciform symbols used by Christians. I have been told that the true d...
