Visited: Couldn't find on 30th May 2000
Log Text: Despite having roamed around Thebes for two days, I did not find this site, so I cannot tell you what is actually visible. I thought I had found it, but much later realized that I was at a somewhat similar piece of ground on the opposite site of town.
Thebes Museum
Date Added: 2nd Jul 2017
Site Type: Museum
Country: Greece (Central Greece)
Visited: Yes on 12th May 2017. My rating: Condition 5 Ambience 5 Access 5
Thebes Museum submitted by AlexHunger on 23rd Aug 2006. The Museum in Thebes looked like a mediaval tower built from antique blocks and is recommended by the Michelin Guide for Greece. It is however still being renovated at this time.
Thebes is the legendary city of Cadmus and Oedipus, though only few antique monuments can be found.

Log Text: Maps still show the major buildings, tombs, and sanctuaries, but almost all of the ancient city of Aigai is currently closed to visitors. However, you can still hike up to see the fenced off (but visible) theater from the big parking lot on the east side of the modern village of Vergina. From here you have a great view to the north over what was the agora, a portion of the city's eastern wall, and the cemetery complexes.
To the east you can see the modern village of Palatitsia ("palace,") where the 16th century church of St. Demetrius can be seen with ancient column drums making up part of the walls. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/23715229

Pella (Greece) submitted by davidmorgan on 3rd Dec 2006. Not a lot to see here, the mosaics in the museum are good (if they're not on tour).

Log Text: The main fully excavated and stabilized portions of the city are substantial, but one could wander over all the open areas and sporadic marked tombs outside the city for days. The site of the palace lies uphill from the new museum, and is not open to the public.
The new museum (opened in 2009) is amazing, with very good signage in Greek and English.
Cahokia - Mound 66
Trip No.2 Entry No.10 Date Added: 30th May 2017
Site Type: Artificial Mound
Country: United States (Great Lakes Midwest)
Visited: Saw from a distance on 1st Jul 2008. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 2
Log Text: From aerial photos this is one of the larger mounds at Cahokia. And although it is not on an easily accessible footpath, it can be seen from Forest Blvd., south of the modern Cahokia park. It lies at the southern boundary of the city proper and is 430' by 170' (east-west by north-south) and 25-30 feet high.
In the early 1900's a raised road or causway could be seen extending north from this mound toward the central area of Cahokia. The causeway was more recently confirm by Lidar imaging.
The mound was excavated in the 1920's and a great unfilled trench through the mound can still be seen. This excavation was performed because it appeared that expansion by the nearby rail road was scheduled to completely level the mound. This did not occur.
The mound had been used for burials: both the ancient people of Cahokia and the more recent French colonists.

Log Text: Four visible mounds. They are believed to have been flat topped mounds for building sites, but they have been degraded over the years by plowing that only one is remotely of the classic four sided platform. The other three are rounded off and relatively low.
Placards describe the site briefly.

Bledsoe's Lick Mound submitted by bat400 on 29th Jun 2006. The Mississippian platform mound at Castalian Springs, Sumner County, TN (formerly Bledsoe's Lick.)
The conical mound with a flattened top was built on the west end of a broad rectangular platform. The structure is much reduced by plowing over the years. However, the ground has been undisturbed for a number of years. The property is now owned and protected by the state.

Log Text: I visited in 2006 while the Middle Tennessee University was conducting a dig, not of the mound itself, but of the footprint of several buildings which were visible from the traces of postholes and (to less evidence, walls.) Very interesting. Meet Dr. Smith, who was very gracious with his time and explanations.
