Huaca Rajada

Date Added: 24th Sep 2018
Site Type: Pyramid / Mastaba Country: Peru
Visited: Yes on 24th Sep 2018. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 4 Access 4

Log Text: The civic center associated with the famous "Lord of Sipan" tomb finds. Visible are the large adobe pyramids, and a burial platform. The tombs found in the burial platform remain open and contain simple reproductions of the tomb finds as well as signage describing the tombs.
The pyramids themselves are dramatically eroded, but careful examination shows the adobe brick structure. A nearby museum describes the Moche culture and multiple noble burials, but the finds from the tomb of the "Lord of Sipan" himself are in the museum of the Royal Tombs innearby Lambayeque City. Please visit here as well you show your support of the local village and the vendors who work near the museum.

A very well presented site with easy access on a flat quarter mile sand, gravel and concrete footpath. (Wheel chair access with minor assistance is possible on the trail.)

Log Text: On a whim, we turned off the highway when we saw a sign, and then we kept following signs until we arrived. An interesting combination of the tomb and the wind turbines beyond it, I was impressed by the local sense of ownership. In addition to access and a place to park there was a low table for picnics complete with a flower arrangement.

Common Fields

Date Added: 25th Aug 2017
Site Type: Artificial Mound Country: United States (The Plains)
Visited: Yes on 21st Aug 2017. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 3

Common Fields

Common Fields submitted by bat400 on 18th Oct 2007. Common Fields Site just south east of Ste Genevieve, MO. This mound is all that is left of a small Mississippian village. This view is from the railroad grade just west of the mound. Photo by bat400, 13 Oct 2007.

Log Text: Used the mound as a backdrop for a series of photographs I took leading up to the total solar eclipse at 1318, 21 Aug 2017. On a previous visit it appeared that a farm road north of the mound was the closest access point (one could drive as far as the railroad,) but the county road south of the mound is a far better view point.

Maen Llia submitted by cerrig on 23rd Jun 2015. A real life manifestation of the stone 'going down to the stream for a drink' - or its shadow at least! Not quite the solstice , a couple of days late . Kite aerial photo of the sunset shadow , and Maen Llia's new enclosure . No expense was wasted on the planning or erecting , a very frugal venture .
