Barnhouse Settlement

Barnhouse Settlement submitted by AngieLake on 22nd Jul 2010. This is the entrance to the largest building at Barnhouse, which was thought to have some ceremonial connection. [If the 'D' word can be used, I did find an amazingly symmetrical ritual movement inside and in the area outside the entrance, when dowsing.]

Maes Howe submitted by AngieLake on 22nd Jul 2010. The mountains of Hoy seen from the summit of Maeshowe/ Maes Howe, taken in 2001. (The surrounding bank can just be glimpsed in the foregound.) The long fenced track to the monument, seen on the left here, turns back left again to the main road and visitor centre (or did in 2001!)

Sueno's Stone

Sueno's Stone submitted by AngieLake on 2nd Nov 2004. Defenders preparing for a footie penalty shot?! ... These amusing little figures can be seen on the huge Pictish 'Sueno stone', sheltered inside its glass case at Forres. A shame that the glass reflected the light. Taken 5th July 2001. This Class III stone is one of the finest examples of Dark Age sculptures in Europe. It has been suggested that the enormous and intricate carving shows the coronation of Kenneth Mac Alpin. If so, it would have been erected in the 9th century to inform the P...

Machrie Moor 10

Machrie Moor 10

Machrie Moor 10 submitted by AngieLake on 8th Sep 2008. Stones at the SW of the Moss Farm Road (or Machrie Moor 10) circle. The stone on the left resembles the head and shoulders of a hooded person. It faces into the circle, and towards the NE and Midsummer sunrise. There's a dip in the hills at NE, and my ritual movement dowsing headed out of the circle in that direction. Its inner face also seems to have a circular carving.

Moss Farm Stone

Moss Farm Stone submitted by AngieLake on 8th Sep 2008. This is the view of Moss Farm standing stone looking towards a boulder which has been inscribed as a present-day memorial. (Hence the fencing around it.) I wasn't sure if the boulder was brought there recently or always stood in that place, to the NE of the standing stone. (The flat face viewed here is the stone's West face, the other facing East.)

Tormore 2

Tormore 2 submitted by AngieLake on 9th Sep 2008. Going by my sketch on the day, this view is looking towards a gap in the hills to the NE. [Checked this site grid ref on www.danu.co.uk/gallery/info/stones/mosscairn.html. Calling it "Moss Farm Cairn", "grid ref NR 90590 32367", they say that it is: "An excavated cairn circle which lies in a field south of trackway to Machrie Moor just west of Moss Farm." It was definitely between Moss Farm Road Circle and the main Machrie Moor circles.]

Machrie Moor 1. submitted by AngieLake on 11th Sep 2008. Machrie Moor 1. The large leaning stone in the centre of this pic is the one I recorded at N of centre of the circle. Very exciting findings by Burl and other archaeologists that there were once timber circles and a horseshoe setting of wood posts here. June 2002

Balnuaran of Clava Centre

Balnuaran of Clava Centre submitted by AngieLake on 16th Mar 2006. This is an intriguing stone, standing south of the central 'cairn' at Balnuaran of Clava Cairns near Inverness. It has a lovely pattern in its southern face, with one mark very like an 'eye'. I dowsed a ritual processional movement here that focussed on the 'eye'; the three causeways of the central 'cairn'; and moved clockwise around it, also acknowledging a stone at the east, before ending on the cobbles at the southern edge of the central space of the cairn.

Balnuaran Of Clava NE

Balnuaran Of Clava NE submitted by AngieLake on 20th Mar 2010. This is the stone near the NE cairn that I christened the '2001 Stone' after the monoliths in '2001- A Space Odyssey'. A crystal on this NE face gave me a strange sensation when I held my hand over it. In case anyone wants to check it out: I'd recorded it about 2/5ths of the way up from the ground, and about 1/3rd across the stone's width from the right. My plan shows it as kidney-shaped, or boomerang shaped [not quite 'crescent moon-shaped'!], concave/arc facing right. I'd guess it would ha...

Barns Farm Dalgety Fife

Barns Farm Dalgety Fife submitted by AngieLake on 25th Sep 2008. This Spey Curragh, displayed at the Coracle Museum in Cenarth in Wales is similar to the type found re-used as a coffin at a site excavated in Fife in 1974, and believed to be Barns Farm, Dalgety. The photo [top] shows the info board with that intriguing information, and the photo bottom, the full-sized coracle on display.
