Sueno's Stone

Sueno's Stone submitted by AngieLake on 2nd Nov 2004. Defenders preparing for a footie penalty shot?! ... These amusing little figures can be seen on the huge Pictish 'Sueno stone', sheltered inside its glass case at Forres. A shame that the glass reflected the light. Taken 5th July 2001. This Class III stone is one of the finest examples of Dark Age sculptures in Europe. It has been suggested that the enormous and intricate carving shows the coronation of Kenneth Mac Alpin. If so, it would have been erected in the 9th century to inform the P...

Barnhouse Settlement

Barnhouse Settlement submitted by AngieLake on 22nd Jul 2010. This is the entrance to the largest building at Barnhouse, which was thought to have some ceremonial connection. [If the 'D' word can be used, I did find an amazingly symmetrical ritual movement inside and in the area outside the entrance, when dowsing.]

The long fenced track to the monument, seen on the left here, turns back left again to the main road and visitor centre (or did in 2001!)

Claverhouse's Stone submitted by AngieLake on 31st Jul 2009. This old engraving - "Site of Dundee's Death" - shows the Claverhouse stone portrayed by W H Bartlett [from Mary Evans Picture Library]. I found it in 'Two Men in a Trench II', by Neil Oliver and Tony Pollard. Under the picture: "The Claverhouse Stone, one of the supposed sites of Dundee's death. Urrard House can be seen in the trees on the high ground.

Penrhos-Feilw

Penrhos-Feilw submitted by AngieLake on 25th Sep 2004. The two tall stones and their shadows viewed from another angle, showing the proximity of the farm house beside the lane, close to which I'd parked in a small layby. This was taken one gloriously sunny evening in May 2002. The views over Trearddur Bay are stunning, and I would guess that the distant hills must be on the Lleyn Peninsula, on the south side of Caernarfon Bay. This site is actually on Holy Island, but joined to Anglesey (Ynys Mon) by several roads. (The horses were both there on ...

Bodowyr

Bodowyr submitted by AngieLake on 5th Dec 2004. This is the gorgeous (and possibly important) view from the 'front' of Bodowyr burial chamber, down the sloping field, and across the Menai Straits towards the noticeable dip in the mountains of North Wales mainland. I would imagine the dip would be the gap between Snowdon (on the right) and Glyder Fawr (left), where the Llanberis Pass runs. Maybe the sun rose in that dip at Midwinter Solstice, as it would seem to be in a southeasterly direction? Its rays would then have illuminated the tomb ...
