Log Text: The closest you can come by car is the car park (64.263337, -21.117194). From there, a walkway leads you as far as the church and old cemetery.
The path to the valley supposed to be just on top of the dividing line Europe-America (where two tectonic plates pull the Atlantic floor apart) is asphalted at first, then more rocky (and you are not supposed to go that far... Naughty, naughty, naughty, I did !).
Try to come before 09.00 : there are still hardly any tourists and, at 09.00 on the dot, you will attend the raising of the flag.

Anta da Aboboreira

Anta da Aboboreira submitted by Alta-Falisa on 21st Mar 2014. From Baião, take the road to Marco de Canaveses. After about 2 km going uphill, you'll see the signposts "Estações arqueológicas" (which is the last indication you'll see) and "Centro Hípico", both to the right. I give the distances from here. After 100 m, take to the left : "Centre Hípico". The Centro Hípico will be on your left after 900 m. The asphalted road ends one hundred meters further and here starts the earth road, all right for a normal car. After 1600 m, in a long cu...

Brunehault submitted by Alta-Falisa on 23rd Mar 2014. Pierre Brunehault, in October 2012. Signposted along road N.507 (Rue de Tournai), but the signpost is oriented for people coming from the North. In the middle of fields (on the photo, you can see a heap of beetroots...), therefore in a very calm area. Over the years, many people have engraved inscriptions in the stone.

Menir de São Paio de Antas submitted by Alta-Falisa on 24th Mar 2014. Menir de Antas, Portugal. Although the mound on which the menhir stands is surrounded by houses served by a local road, the whole area is residential and quiet. The houses are just 25 m away. The growing vegetation provides an ever changing backdrop to the menhir. Photo taken in March 2014.

Anta do Mezio

Anta do Mezio submitted by Alta-Falisa on 24th Mar 2014. Easy to find along the road N.202 going from Soajo (go and see a curious pillory - signposted "Pelourinho"- in the historic part of the village) to Arcos de Valdevez (a nice larger town). The Information Center of Mezio, providing info about the Parque Nacional de Peneda-Gérês [PNPG] in general, is just off the right of this photo. Mamoa 6 do Mezio

Date Added: 30th Mar 2014

Visited: Yes on 25th Mar 2014

Mamoa 6 do Mezio

Mamoa 6 do Mezio submitted by Alta-Falisa on 25th Mar 2014. Mamoa 6 do Mezio, North Portugal. Between AUG.2011 (visit of irishbogman) and MAR.2014, the Mamoa is, luckily, still in the same shape. Except the small tree, all the invasive vegetation has been cleared to preserve the monument. The Authorities take great care of this patrimonium. Generally speaking, the local population also is well aware of the historical importance of these monuments and can tell, even several km away, where is what.
