Log Text: This Stone is something of an enigma - there is no good reason for it being where it is - it is however worth that 'little bit extra' to get close to - the markings are quite extraordinary - was there any human influence on its placement?

The remaining mound is about 55 metres in length, up to half as wide, and still 4 metres in height.

Soldier's Grave submitted by thecaptain on 10th Apr 2009. This large round barrow can be found on the top of the Cotswold escarpment just into the woods at the northwest corner of the country park / picnic area, a couple of hundred yards to the north of Nympsfield long barrow.

The ploughed field surrounding the barrow is eating away at it. The most recent ploughing must have taken a couple of feet from each end, with all the stones which formerly made up the mound being scattered across the field.

Long Stone (Minchinhampton) submitted by TimPrevett on 30th Dec 2009. Sunset 26/12/09 - an unplanned visit to a number of sites in the area.
No maps - just a vague 1970s guidebook - took us a couple hours to locate this having gone from Minchinhampton via Hampton Fields to Tetbury to Avening missing the stone at first by a narrow margin.
Having resigned ourselves to a long barrow this stone was spotted with just a few minutes before the sun went below the horizon.
A very impressive 7 feet tall stone, and make sure to see the smaller stone bisecting the wall ...

This passes Rugger's Green Barn famous for flints - RGB is down shot from camera three fields away towards Nailsworth
