Gatcombe Lodge
Date Added: 30th May 2011
Site Type: Long Barrow
Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 27th May 2011. My rating: Ambience 4 Access 3

Gatcombe Lodge submitted by thecaptain on 24th Mar 2009. Having read several tales of people being stopped and questioned by rapidly arriving police here, I didn’t spend long, and just took a photo from the entry to the estate.
It looks to be the regular shapeless lumpy bumpy mess covered in trees.

Log Text: This came as an awful shock - I have an idea that there was muddled thinking by local government - and we have the gall to criticise 19th century tomb hunters
Starveall
Date Added: 29th May 2011
Site Type: Chambered Tomb
Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 29th May 2011. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 4

Starveall submitted by TheCaptain on 29th Mar 2004. Starveall Barrow, South Gloucestershire, ST794879, March 2004.
View looking west at the barrows east side.
The ploughed field surrounding the barrow is eating away at it. The most recent ploughing must have taken a couple of feet from each end, with all the stones which formerly made up the mound being scattered across the field.

Log Text: This Stone is something of an enigma - there is no good reason for it being where it is - it is however worth that 'little bit extra' to get close to - the markings are quite extraordinary - was there any human influence on its placement?
