Oldfield Wood

Oldfield Wood submitted by 4clydesdale7 on 2nd Jun 2011. One pile of stones almost certainly from the site which is just 30m up the field to the left of shot - beyond that is the farm track approach. This passes Rugger's Green Barn famous for flints - RGB is down shot from camera three fields away towards Nailsworth

Log Text: This is quite different from Buckholt Wood, Bown Hill, Nympsfield and HPT (all in the same area) in that it is very definitely Round rather than Long

Buckholt Wood

Log Text: Easy to find with a couple of extras close by - a Bowl Barrow at the far end of the Airfield and a little further on the strange Penn Hill Cross Dyke

Bown Hill Long Barrow

Bown Hill Long Barrow

Bown Hill Long Barrow submitted by 4clydesdale7 on 17th Jun 2011. Approaching from the riding School/Livery Stables this Long Barrow is impressive.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Approach gets harder the nearer you get - good views to north - the barrow itself is not easy to walk across - riding school very amenable

Bown Hill Bowl Barrow

Log Text: Comes over the spur from the NW and plunges down the other side to the SE - but where does it guard? - certainly not the Haresfield Hillforts to the N - deep quite steep sided and really quite impressive

Honeycombe Farm

Date Added: 24th Jun 2011
Site Type: Chambered Tomb Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Jun 2011. My rating: Condition -1 Ambience 2 Access 5

Log Text: Where this is supposed to be is very easy to get to and even easier be sure where you are when you get there. The Long Barrow is marked on OS Explorer as being where a footpath crosses the local B road - there is no sign of the barrow's continued existence - at least no sign in crop level (wheat) - may need to check again after harvest but I am not hopeful

West Tump

Date Added: 24th Jun 2011
Site Type: Long Barrow Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Jun 2011. My rating: Condition 3 Ambience 4 Access 3

West Tump

West Tump submitted by hamish on 3rd Apr 2005. This is the top of the Barrow, you can see how it is being eroded by mountain bikes.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: Not that hard to find - just keep walking up hill from the sawmills (along a pathway that starts -left- between the gate to the sawmills and the gate by the old cricket pavilion and then take the second oblique right keeping the higher part of the hill/wood just slightly to the left of your direction of travel) - just short of the top is West Tump - worth the effort

Camp Barrow

Date Added: 24th Jun 2011
Site Type: Barrow Cemetery Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Jun 2011. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 4

Camp Barrow North

Camp Barrow North submitted by hamish on 23rd Feb 2004. Camp Barrow North - the remains of the Portal. SO914091.Near Bisley.
(View photo, vote or add a comment)

Log Text: North is a Long Barrow and South a Round Barrow according to most commentators - I am not sure I agree - perhaps N was a Long Barrow when it was whole but then S now still looks like a small Long Barrow rather than a Round one (but it is marked Tumulus on the OS Map) or was the RB built on the S end of the LB

Haresfield Barrow

Date Added: 24th Jun 2011
Site Type: Round Barrow(s) Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Jun 2011. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 3 Access 3

Haresfield Barrow

Haresfield Barrow submitted by 4clydesdale7 on 24th Jun 2011. Taken from NNW - OK - so it is a bit like 'Where's Wally?' but it is there - plum centre - as the next picture will show

Log Text: Shown as Tumuli on OS Explorer 179 - not at all impressive

Haresfield Dyke Camp

Site Type: Ancient Village or Settlement Country: England (Gloucestershire)
Visited: Yes on 23rd Jun 2011. My rating: Condition 2 Ambience 2 Access 4

Log Text: Not easy to appreciate and gives some food for thought
