Göbekli Tepe

Göbekli Tepe submitted by AlexHunger on 1st Aug 2006. Segment D is one of the near circular shaped pillared areas in the best condition of Göbekli Tepe. There are 5 more, usually smaller such pillared areas on this site, many of the pillars having elaborate carvings. Göbekli Tepe is apparently a Pre Pottery Neolithic Temple dating back to about 9,000 BCE near the Euphrates in South Eastern Turkey. With kind permission from Dr. Klaus Schmidt, of the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut. Original text provided: Anlage D ist die bes...

Bjerne Knoldsborg Runddysse 2

Bjerne Knoldsborg Runddysse 2 submitted by holger_rix on 7th Aug 2011. Rectangular, free-standing dolmen chamber oriented WNW / ESE. Set by 1 carry stones on each side and one stone at WNV. A large, splitted stone sitting low in front of the seemingly chamber opening in the ESE is probably (as described in the conservation text) a threshold stone. A great tip capstone in situ. Inner measuring chamber approximately 1.8 x 0.8 m. Access is only possible from private dirt road. Extremely beautifully situated with views both to the NE (to Fåborg...

Ffyst Samson (Trellys) submitted by Johnny on 17th Sep 2001. Ffyst Samson neolithic chamber (SM 906 349) is otherwise known as Trellys, St. Nicholas. It is bizarre in appearance, consisting of a capstone apparently delicately balanced on just two tall pointed supporting stones. Although difficult to reach, the effort required is worthwhile!

L-Imramma Temple

L-Imramma Temple submitted by enkidu41 on 28th Jun 2004. These remains of this early type of temple lie on the barren Ta' Cenc plateau and are not only hard to find but difficult to make any sense of. The only plan available is that made in 1897 by Albert Mayr which even with the complete suspension of disbelief seems to bear only a partial resemblance to what is seen today. This shot is of 3 large slabs forming part of the western wall. The smaller stones are a modern field wall.
