Re: Armies trash Babylon by Anonymous on Monday, 27 March 2006

Saddam had built a huge palace on a man made hill over looking the Ancient City of Babylon. He had imported all types of rare plants and trees and set up a garden there. He had built massive dining facilities over looking the river. This site was given to Chemical Ali by Saddam. When we took over there the Iraqi people looted this site and damaged a lot of it. Then during our stay there the Iraqi's mortared us. Don't get me wrong - all Iraqi's are not bad. I met many nice ones. But us being there kept the looters out. We only turned it over to the Iraq gov when we thought they could keep out the looters and secure the gates of the camp from intruders. The damage we did by bringing in dirt from outside the site and driving trucks/landing helicopters is nothing compared to what looters would have done. Email me if you want some pictures of the site and what I saw while there. [email protected]
