The latest update, posted by Mr Will Parfitt, on the Glastonbury Noticeboard:-
"... the council made a final decision and have approved outline permission for 5 houses ... they have set conditions which should ensure the work is carried out sensitively and good landscaping features are included, so it is not as bad as it could be from that perspective. (Mr James could appeal against the conditions, I don't know but I don't think he will because, despite what some people have suggested, I think he does care about the hill and how it looks in the end.)
All the objector's concerns have not been addressed, as might be expected, and they certainly taken no consideration of people's worries concerning the sacredness of the hill and the tree, but then they say that is not in their remit anyway. I had an official complaint lodged but, even though that was still in process, they went ahead and gave permission anyway, so I have withdrawn the complaint as it seemed of little use to continue. I tried to get other people to lodge complaints etc., which could have made a difference, but generally although many people have opinions about it to express, when it comes to actually doing anything they don't follow their words with actions. I guess that's the way it is.
I understand someone else is still considering asking for a judicial review but I think they are rather cheesed off with the lack of support as well, so I doubt that will happen now.
Perhaps this incident will awaken people to action when further plans are submitted which encroach upon other sacred sites in Glastonbury, as will inevitably happen in the current climate."
