Yep,we used to go to Avebury back in the early 90's and there were about a 100 people there.Then when the festivals became heavily commercial,it became the only free event left open.
Until the pay festivals become cheap again,I'm afraid this is going to be a permanent problem.
Of course,there is a knee jerk reaction about putting up razor wire which points to a repressive system.
Possibly it would be better for mr Eavis too put his behemoth of a festival on a week earlier over the solstice weekend and you would see the numbers drop substantially.Leaving the more discerning types to enjoy the Avebury event,whilst the hooligan or "right on" types are trapped at the commercial concentration camp of Glasto.
If you want the stones to be a bit more easy going,then push the pay festival to revert back to the solstice weekend,which it used to be on by the way.
