You say it is the only Anglo-Saxon structure of its kind - what about the East Anglian dykes in Cambridgeshire? The Brent, Fleam and Devil's Dykes are much shorter but stretch across open land between marsh and forest. Thanks for a very interesting article. Case not proved but certainly stimulates thought and reconsideration.
