Reading Ashby's contribution reminded me that Prof. A Thom put forward a theory that the Mid Clyth stone rows, which are Bronze Age(?) might have been used as some form of lunar calculator. If my memory serves me correctly the theory was put forward in a Christmas Lecture to the British Astronomical Association in either the late 1960's or early 70's and carried in their BAA Journal shortly afterwards. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the relevant article as my BAA Journals were disposed of during a house move a few years ago.
