I must say I am getting tired of the anti-photoshop tirade. It is like people who can strum a few chords at best on a guitar getting upset about someone who practices day and night. Even with no intervention, there is no direct connection between the real thing and the photo, especially if a camera is set to 'auto-everything' where all sorts of adjustments are made behind the scenes. I work for days fine tuning my photographs until they convey what I want to say about the landscape, how it feels to me. The camera alone is not capable of doing that.
Please can I make it very clear that I am not submitting my work for the competition. I love the landscape and work to convey the magical connection of spirit and place. Many people respond to this but it seems to make some people cross. To me, photography is an expressive medium, others just take snaps.
It seems clear to me that the competition needs some rules, like "absolutely no manipulation". If people cut things from one photo and paste into another, that's collage - is there an Art category? I didn't know it was prohibited. But as far as my work is concerned, they are highly tuned photographs. There is no 'cheating' involved, even if one could define what that meant.
Something is not right. This message is just to keep things from messing up down the road
