if someone would like their own photo to be considered for the competition they could simply rate/score/vote it (rate/scoring of your own photos does work). you can only rate/score the once for each photo and I don't think it possible that a photo could win with only a single rating.
then Andy B can show which photos have been rated/scored/voted on in the competition period as he suggests above. One thing I think is important, don't show the pictures in the order of highest scoring first as these will always get ever higher where people only look at the first few pictures on the first page.
