Junk cars don’t generally draw much attention in the Ozarks. Plant ’em nose-down in lieu of a fence, though, and folks might take notice.
That’s exactly what Utah farmer Rhett Davis did to get the attention of his neighbors in Hooper, a farming community outside Salt Lake City.
Davis told Ogden Standard-Examiner news staffers that new neighbors had complained about his animals attracting flies and his haying equipment stirring up dust. They enjoyed the pastoral setting with his horses and cattle on pasture, but not the industry of agriculture.
Davis offered to pay half the cost and build a fence between his field and the neighboring subdivision — built on land his grandfather had once farmed — but the neighbors didn’t want their view blocked.
He conceived his “Redneck Stonehenge” idea as a way of letting his neighbors and the rest of the world know that he could do whatever he wished on his farm. “You don’t want to tick off a redneck with a backhoe,” he told the Standard-Examiner.
