English Heritage don't care when the solstice actually occurs, they want people to be at stonehenge on the 21st regardless. In the documentary about The National Trust that was made a few years ago the NT, EH and people who have campained for open access at stonehenge debated this issue and EH stated that the 21st is the only acceptable day because they are concerned that one day of open access will turn into two because people will turn up not only on the actual solstice but on the 21st as well because that's the day that those who are not in the know, which is the vast majority, think the solstice always falls on. I would prefer the real solstice but I can see their predicament.
