We were also struck by the sight of Cae'r-llwyn when walking there last week, and took some pictures. By the sort of coincidence we have long since stopped being surprised by, the owner of the farm cottage we were staying in asked if we had noticed it. His parents had lived there until moving to his current farm in 1946, and his extended family still farmed the land around the cottage - so your guess of 50 or so years abandoned is spot-on!
