Re: Oregon obsidian traces history for archaeologists by Anonymous on Friday, 28 March 2008

Oregon Obsidian?
This sounds pretty good!
My favorite Lithic material
Why I liked the Olmec culture so much
Obsidian was the premium toolmaking material
Whoever possessed obsidian was the wealthiest
My geology presentation was done on archaeological reconnaissance using the Yellowstone fire as a model
Yellowstone obsidian shows up in Hopewell culture and was traded in the Interaction Sphere
The most likely trade route however would of been the Missouri River which flows in the opposite direction
Interesting you say?
This is why archaeologists never stop asking the question what if?
Its' like being in a Hewlitt-Packard commercial and probably why I'm divorced and a bachelor but the world of science is whats' imporrtant
