The fact that sea levels were up to 300 ft lower during past ice ages, and that 90% of humanity lives on the seacoast, leads me to believe that human archeology has had access to only 10% of mankinds' existence.
I have been searching the net for agreement with this hypothesis, and this article is the closest I've found so far.
