Notwithstanding the somewhat sceptical comments pasted into this debate, I have now done some more work on this, and have confirmed that glacier ice did extend at least as far as Sedgemoor and the Somerset Levels during the biggest ice expansion of the Pleistocene. That opens up another possibility -- that glacier ice carried the bluestones to near Glastonbury, and that human transport did the rest, with overland haulage to Stonehenge. Some glacial transport, and some human.......That would have a nice symmetry -- one sacred site supplying the stones for the building of another.
