I visited Avebury during the early summer - It is a lovely sacred place. It was so good to be able to touch the stones, feel their power and the feeling of peace that the whole area brings. I sat and leaned against one of the big stones and meditated in the sun.
To many, this is where we would love to hold our ceremonies - pagan sites are few and far between and make our rituals very special and powerful. I would not dream of abusing another religion's sacred site - for example a church or chapel - it SHAMES me that a few ignorant people spoil it for us.
If the few continue to abuse this priviledge, then sadly we will lose the freedom and the right to a very unique site.
When I was a small child my parents took me to see Stonehenge and I can remember touching the stones - now, my children can only look at it from a distance.
The selfish arrogance of a few will spoil other sites for the many and all sites will eventually end up fenced off - this would be a tragedy.
