An Indigenous elder is shocked that vandals are targeting ancient rock art on the Burrup Peninsula, in north-west Western Australia.
A National Trust survey conducted on the weekend found graffiti and other images had been painted on rock art, some of which is believed to be up to 20,000 years old.
Wilfred Hicks of the Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo West Ngarluma people says the vandalism is an insult to Aboriginal culture.
"As I'll always say, our culture is not on paper," he said.
"It is a bible that has been given to us and it's lying on the Burrup and these people are destroying it on us.
"If we went into a church and sprayed all around the church, we'd be put in jail for it."
