I had been told that the builders of the Newark Earthworks did farm, planting and over generations improving local plants which now are no longer cultivated. Someone who had done archaeological botanical research said they found the altered seeds in the living areas, but iover centuries they were replaced as crops by corn. However, that was over 15 years ago, and research may have turned up conflicting evidence.
