The Oldenburger Burgwall located in the center of Oldenburg in Holstein is one of the most important archaeological monuments in Schleswig-Holstein. The rampart was built towards the end of the 7th century, making it one of the oldest Slavic castle ramparts in Germany.

. Apparently it was so old even for the Slavs that in the 11th century it was only referred to in their own language as "Starigard" (Polabian language for "old castle"). This term was already translated into German as "Aldinburg" (Oldenburg) by German chroniclers of the 11th and 12th centuries, giving the city its present name from Slavic times.

The first archaeological excavations took place in the 1950s.
Large-scale excavation campaigns in the 1970s and 1980s brought to light not only extraordinary small finds but also the structural structures of the princely court of the 9th and 10th centuries.
