Anta das Areias 1 is a dolmen or anta located in private property in the municipality of Reguengos de Monsaraz. This monument is next to another dolmen (see Anta das Areias 2). The monument is very well hidden under trees and bushes, next to a brook. This monument is not yet classified and law protected.
About the Architecture
It is a large corridor dolmen with an elongated chamber, almost rectangular. It is 3.90 meters by 2.50 in diameter and has a maximum floor height of 2.20m. Of the observed pillars, 4 of them are in situ (the headboard pillar, the two adjacent pillars and a pillar at the entrance of the chamber). There are two others already fallen. The roof slab is 1.90 m, the pillar on the north side follows at right angles, the position of the pillar on the south side indicates in this part of the chamber a slight tendency towards the polygon. The chamber has been fully excavated and has a large cavity in the center. A large tumulus about 2m in height involves the lytic construction. The orientation is southeast.
About the Access
Prepare yourself for a big walk of about 1.60 Km. The monument is located 150 meters west-southwest of Monte das Areias, on the west bank of a brook next to a rocky outcrop and is not very easy to see.

Aditional information:
- You should always ask permission to visit the site if it's located in private property. People are usually nice and there should be no problem.
- The entrance to the zone of the monuments may be blocked by fences, they were essentially made to demarcate the land and not allow the escape of livestock.
Usually there are spaces in the fences where the access is possible. When entering in demarcated land never forget to close the access gate, you need to be very cautious because cattle can escape.
- There are no signs prohibiting us from entering so the access can be open but be careful when you explore every time you see this red plaques that alert you for the Hunting Zones. Remind yourself that usually hunters can only hunt at selected hunting days (Thursdays, Sundays and on public holidays).
