Standing Stone (Menhir) in Bohemia

Czech Meran is the area roughly around the town Sedlec Prčice in the southern part of central Bohemia. The name Meran dates to the 19th century and it is related to landscape resemblance around South Tyrolean Merano in Italy.

Area of Czech Meran is characterized by its rocky mountains up to 700 m alt., really rugged terrain, islands of dense forests and large pastures. It is said that some of these hills are ancient sacred places. Even settlement of this area dates to far prehistory.

But the most important to me are the stones of the Czech meran. They are truly ubiquitous here. Large errant boulders, impressive logan stones and interesting rock outcrops. Some of the stones were erected in past and some were used perhaps as a natural sanctum.

Nameless hill north of the village Chýšky hides two beautiful standing stones. Both sites are out of tourist trails, both are known only to a narrow group of enthusiasts and both are really worth a visit.

Kozlov 1 is that smaller one. 130 cm tall granite monolith of an oval shape. The stone is hidden in the recently planted pine forest and it is quite challenge to locate it. As usual the stone has was discovered, described and also named by Mr Bartl. Many thanks to him!
