664m high peak of an unusual name "Kbíl" is dominating to the hilly country SW of the Strakonice town. There is a recently built lookout which offers magnificent view around southern Bohemia. About 100m from the iron tower on the secondary top, an interesting stone structure can by found.
So called "Dolmen of Kbíl" consists of three main boulders. Two of it create "chamber" with a large oval lintel stone as the ceiling. All the structure is safely stabil and the cave seems to be precisely oriented along EW axis.
Most experts consider this stone setting to be a creation of the nature. Others remain skeptical of geological origin and point to various facts, like suspicious orientation and dominant location on the top. In any case intensive archeological survey of this place is still missing.
According some unconfirmed sources, there used to be several similar monuments around the mountain. Two more dolmen structures were allegedly destroyed in 19th century. And there are other interesting fact to be mention in context.
At least two significant menhirs use to stand in close vicinity in past. One on the slope of the nearby La Tène period hillfort Libětice and other one called Alžběta (Elizabeth) on the top of the hill north from here. Especially Elizabeth stone was quite intersting one. It (or she) was the first standing stone documented in the region on the image from 17th century. Remarkedly anthropomorphic menhir was destroyed in 1659.
The Dolmen of Kbíl is worth a visit anyway. There is a nice tourist trail leading there and the place is well signposted.
