Anne T visited on 13th May 2019 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 4 Belstone Spring Head: From the village green, we decided to walk to the well, following the lane past the church and turning right (ESE) onto the common ground/moorland.
Located almost immediately opposite a large pub, and just down slope, this was a lovely location which attracted families and dog walkers.
No water flowing at the time of our visit (the well chamber/basin was just muddy with nettles and ferns growing in it) but there were pools of water bubbling from the ground around it. Some of the ground was fairly boggy, but I managed to get close enough to look in the well chamber.

The well is located to the east of the main road into Belstone, below the church and on the edge of the moor.
The well is recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 1461291 and Historic England List ID 1106122. Historic England tells us that the structure may have survived from medieval times, adding the well is "built of undressed granite blocks. The spring head is terraced into the hillside. It is walled on three sides, roofed with a large slab, and open on the north-east."
There is some debate as to whether the well is holy or not. In Search of Holy Wells says "whether it may be regarded as 'holy' is unclear. Although the church of St Mary is close at hand, the well has no dedication". The Legendary Dartmoor website has no hesitation in calling this a holy well.
