Next to Fenicio la Fonteta the Caliphal Ribat was built, partly with stones of La Fonteta; it is dated 944AC and has 21 prayer cells, a Mosque and community area.
This mosque, including the quila of closure of the southern wall that was used to correctly direct the prayers of the faithful towards the sacred Kaaba in Mecca. They have also found a mihrab, a small, vaulted niche indicating the direction in which to face while praying. The construction of the arches of some of these reused elements are from the Phoenician site of La Fonteta. The rooms had a door and tiny windows to provide dim light inside that created a feeling of isolation and mysticism. At night they were lit with oil lamps that fitted into the walls.
Some of the cells were made of mud and whitewashed, others were made of lime mortar. Some of the cells have their original plaster, that show geometric motifs. A large number of ceramics were found, jugs, pots, alcadafe bowls, pitchers, lamps decorated plates and plates with the ancient Kufic characters. - these can be seen in the museum of Guadamar.
