When travelling abroad and exploring new places, effective communication is key. English has become the global language of tourism, serving as a common communication tool for travellers from all over the world. Most people have been learning this language since their school years and can explain themselves well on general topics. Top photo: ancient languages, Latin and Ogham (a Celtic language)

However, many are wondering: what Grade corresponds to their level and whether it will be enough for a successful trip. Let's discover what proficiency level is required to navigate the trip successfully.
Levels of English Proficiency and Tourist Opportunities
English language proficiency requirements may vary depending on specific types of tourism activities and destinations:

The basic level will help you perform routine activities such as ordering food, asking for directions, or looking up basic information. At this level, people can carry on basic conversations and understand simple directions. However, this level is not enough to deal with more complex situations or have detailed conversations with the locals.

The Intermediate level provides a wider range of possibilities. This level allows you to express your thoughts more freely, understand and answer more complex questions, and also conduct a conversation on broader topics. This level of language proficiency allows travellers to actively participate in excursions, seek recommendations from locals, and solve common problems that may arise during travel.

The Advanced level will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the local culture and get the most out of your travel experience if you are in an English-speaking country. The ability to understand guides, ask insightful questions, and fully appreciate the historical and cultural significance of the places they visit enriches the travel experience.

Tourists with an expert level of English have exceptional opportunities. They can easily connect with the locals, immerse themselves in the local culture, and make connections with people from different walks of life. Their high level of English proficiency expands their travel horizons, giving them access to unique experiences and interactions that would otherwise be difficult for tourists with lower levels of language proficiency.

It should be noted that in countries where English is not widely spoken, a high level of professionalism is not required. You will be able to use it for basic communication, and the rest of the time, you will have to rely on applications to translate from the local language into your native one. However, investing in language learning and improving your English proficiency will surely enhance your overall travel experience and allow you to fully experience the variety of places you visit.
