Once they are hooked, PAB will be having the Portal running on a projector in the main hall throughout the day so that visitors can see first hand what a wonderful resource it is. To really impress, 'Sem' and 'Mrs Sem' will also be in attendance - so at least 3 Portal t-shirts should be visible. It would be great if any other Portal members could introduce themselves if they can get along!
The Heritage Day isn't aimed only (or even primarily) at things megalithic. There will also be displays on several aspects of Laugharne's heritage such as; Chapels; Church; Cockle-gathering; Brook School, the Town Hall ....:
There will be refreshments available; exhibits from Dyfed Archaeological Trust and books from Carmarthenshire Antiquarians, a help desk to enable you to find out more about your family or house history and opportunities for you to share photos, documents and memories with the History Society.
The timed talks are as follows:
10.10 a.m. Formal opening by John Bradshaw, Portreeve
Minitalks of 10-15 mins in the Committee Room:
10.20 – Bruce Wallace – learning from Tithe Maps
10.50 – Peter Boyle – Standing stones near Laugharne – how to find them, and other treasures
11.20 –. John Bradshaw – Using newspaper archives to find out about the past – e.g. your family or home
11.50 – Jeff Watts: Laugharne’s cockle gatherers.
12.20 – Orchard Park memories – a discussion.
