A 2,000 year-old computer that was uncovered near Antikythera has had some additional light shed on its existence, thanks to a YouTuber. The Antikythera mechanism has revealed how advanced ancient engineers were, with the device having more than 30 gears that interlock to monitor celestial movements. Users could turn a hand crank, which would simulate the sun and the moon. The device could be used to track lunar phases as well as to predict possible ellipses.

Scientists have said that the device was used with incredible accuracy, as it follows the Saros cycle. Not only is the discovery remarkable, but it also sheds some light on how advanced Greek astronomers were and how much understanding they had of cosmic movements.

Ancient Greece and Its Impact on Modern Day

Researchers are studying the device using advanced techniques and have found that there could be even more hidden features. It’s not just the Antikythera mechanism that’s having an impact on our world either. Greek myths continue to be a source of inspiration for modern media, with examples being Emily Hauser’s Mythica: A New History of Homer’s World. It tells the story of Homer’s charts from the perspective of women, and adds a new take to the classic tale.
The History of Ancient Greece podcast by Ryan Stitt also offers a lot of in-depth narratives that show what life was like back then. Let’s Talk About Myths, Baby! is another modern take on mythology. In iGaming, mythology is also a big theme. A lot of bingo free spins and promotions are geared to popular slots and games, including Age of the Gods Bingo and Age of the Gods digital slot machines. Titles like this showcase gods, including Zeus, ruler of Olympus. Titles like this serve as a good entry point for people who may be new to slots and bingo, due to the relatable theme, so they’re often included in promotions.

Even though modern media is doing a fantastic job at keeping the spotlight on Ancient Greece, it seems that the Antikythera mechanism is taking things one step further. It’s completely challenging the assumptions we have made in the past, and it is also suggesting that people who lived in ancient eras were innovators, and far more advanced in their understanding of the universe than we originally thought.

A YouTuber has tried to Solve the Mystery

Even though the discovery was made many years ago, scientists and astrologers have been working hard to understand it in more detail. A YouTuber, Chris Budiselic, who created the channel Clickspring, has made a breakthrough. He worked endlessly and conducted numerous pieces of research, and found that the holes were all distributed in a circle, with a radius of 77.1 millimeters, with only 0.028 millimeters between each.

The research allowed scientists to access the physical data they needed to aid in the creation of modern models. As a result of this breakthrough, Mexican scientists have created the mechanism, applying experimental archaeology to gain baseline data that has not been accessible for over 100 years.

The latest findings have resulted in a domino effect, with scientists across the world sharing their data and advancing their understanding of the mechanism to the point where we now know more about it than ever.
