Being separated from your luggage during a vacation can not only put a damper on your trip, but it also takes away your excitement. Imagine the feeling of planning a trip to London for days and looking forward to it for weeks, only to have everything you packed disappear? Let’s face it; you can’t always haul everything you need as a carry-on when boarding a plane. But that doesn’t mean you should have to go empty-handed because you lost your baggage.

Before a left luggage London situation can even take place, it is important to be well aware of these steps of how to find lost baggage in London in the event that it happens to you.

1. Label Your Luggage

Labelling your luggage may sound like a no-brainer. But in the hustle and bustle of packing, you may not have noticed that old tags may no longer be attached or have become impossible to read.

Make it easy for people to reach you in case of an emergency.

2. Update Your Information

If you are someone that travels by plane at least once a year, chances are you may you’re your luggage already tagged with your contact information.

That shows that you are ahead of the game when it comes to getting reunited with baggage that could come up missing, but not if the information is old.

Make sure that you double-check those tags to make sure that they reflect your current address, email address, and most recent cell phone number where you can be reached.

Sure, the airline should already have this information on file if your luggage is in their possession, but what about another passenger grabbed the wrong bag and wants to get it back to you?

3. Keep Your Bag Tag

Not only should you make an itemized list of everything you need before you start packing it for you to arrive in London, but you should also keep this packing list with you. It most likely will have a reference number and information to locate any lost bag to simplify the recovery process.

4. Have a Luggage Tracker

Now that you understand the importance of labelling your luggage, go a step further and take your trip to London into the modern age by using a luggage tracker. If you are rightfully concerned about losing your baggage, put the power in your own hands by being able to keep track of it at all times.

With a simple luggage tracking device that you put inside your bags, you can use cellular networks to monitor where your bag and even be alerted by text or email that your luggage has arrived and what city it is located in.

5. Keep a Packing List

Not only should you make an itemized list of everything you need before you start packing it for you arrive in London, you should keep this packing list with you. Especially if you have any expensive items tucked away in your luggage, it is important that you have a way of remembering everything that you brought with you. Go a step further and actually take pictures of all of the contents inside your luggage.

6. Stay at the Airport

Your first instinct after losing your luggage during your trip to London may be to head home immediately and go to bed!

But don’t put off dealing with your missing baggage the next day. Stay at the airport and file a claim before you set foot out of the airport, making them aware that your baggage is lost so that they can begin the process of finding it immediately.

7. Don’t Give Up

Once you have filed a lost luggage report at the airport, you can now either head back home to hang back where you are and spend the night at a local hotel to contact the airport the next morning and follow up on the status of your missing baggage report.

Keep calling if you have to, and be persistent. If you want anyone to take locating your luggage seriously, it has to start with you

8. Have Travel Insurance for Stolen Baggage

For added peace of mind, make sure that you have taken out some travel insurance to cover you for anything stolen luggage. It can happen to even the most organized and prepared travellers. Now that you know how to find lost luggage, take it easy and follow the steps.
