Sports Betting for Beginners
If you’re in the market to try sports betting but are not sure where to start then this article is for you. Even if you’re a seasoned pro brushing up on some of the basics is not a bad idea.

With some big sporting tournaments on the horizon, the best UK bookmakers are getting ready for them by putting together good bonus packages so now is a good time to get on board.
In this article, we are going to look at the basics of sports betting.

The Basics of Sports Betting

Sports betting websites sometimes known as sportsbooks will allow you to bet on any sporting match, game or tournament in the world. It is important as a beginner that you understand betting terminology, learn how to read odds and betting lines, learn how to budget, and know which sports to bet on.
Let’s get started.

Bankroll (Budget)

Bankroll management is vital to successful sports betting. Good bankroll management will stop you from betting money you don’t have, getting lost in the emotion of an event and committing the cardinal sin of chasing losses.
So for good bankroll management:
• Set a budget for each session. Work this out in advance and don’t go beyond it. Accept that you will have good nights and bad nights, and should the latter occur accept it and walk away and come back fresh another day.DSC04264
• Budget between 1-3% of your session budget for each bet. If you’re having a good night lean towards 3% and if you’re having a bad night lean towards 1%.
• Never chase losses as this is the road to wrack and ruin.

Learn the Bets

Learning bets are essential to good sports betting. So single bets include:

• Moneyline – Here you bet on a single result. I.e. Team A can be Team B.
• Point spreads – Bookies will set a limit which the favourite has to surpass and the non-favourite has to lose by to win the bet. You either bet for or against the favourite.
• Over/Under – Bookmakers will state how many goals/points are scored in a match. This is the total. If you bet on over you are betting that the score will exceed the total, if you bet under you are stating that the score will be less than the total. If it s a draw, i.e. the score matches the total your stake is refunded.
• Future bets – This is a high risk bet where you bet on the outcome of a season before the first game is played. This can also be on things like the league's top scorer and a host of other bets which without a crystal ball will be very hard to predict.
• Parlay or accumulator bets – Here you bet on a series of bets which all must win for the bet to be won. So you bet on 3 matches for example, and if all 3 win you win. It is hard to predict parlay bets but the payouts are high should you manage to pull it off.

Good luck with your sports betting endeavours and please gamble responsibly.
