Location independence is a magic buzzword in today´s world. People who don´t want to be tied to one place and like to travel are increasing in number. So having a job which allows to fulfil your aspirations is essential to fund your lifestyle. Luckily these kind of job opportunities are growing as well. More and more companies allow you to do your work remotely or you can work as a freelancer or even be an entrepreneur. A lot of IT work can be done remotely and as a freelancer you can work on a wide variety of projects from visual arts and designing to translating and copy writing.

There are also a lot of people making a living as an online poker player or a Forex trader. So it could be that only your imagination is the limit. Travelling IT workers, freelancers and entrepreneurs are called digital nomads. All around the world you can find places made for these nomads equipped with high speed Wi-Fi, Skype rooms etc. Some of the most popular places for digital nomads are in South East Asia, in countries like Thailand and Bali, or in Eastern Europe, eg Prague or maybe Budapest.

Conquer the challenges

Sipping a cocktail in some remote beach in Thailand while most people are trapped in a cubicle waiting for the day to end and life to start surely sounds like a great deal. But working location independently also has its drawbacks and challenges of course. When you don´t need to go to work you might feel a bit lonely if you are not a social person by nature. You need to go out and put some effort in meeting people and socializing. Scheduling your day can be another challenge if you are not very organized and disciplined. You need to decide what you need accomplish during the day, the time you start working and how many hours you need to put in.

And make yourself do this consistently, not to mention navigating all the distractions of social media and a cluttered working desk. Then after your work is done you need to unglue yourself from your chair and get your mind off work. As it´s not so easy when your work day doesn't necessarily have a clear ending since you can easily think about your work while trying to unwind. This a bit easier when you have a clear fixed workplace and you leave the office or even better you have a physical work which clearly ends after you close the door at your work behind you.

Growth opportunities

Obviously this kind of lifestyle has a lot of upsides too as you have more autonomy and can control how you use your time. This is even more true if you play online poker or do Forex trading since you are doing it completely for yourself and there are no deadlines. But with this freedom comes even more responsibility. Also on the upside is the personal growth factor when you have to develop and master all the skills mentioned previously. On top of that in poker and trading you have more mental and emotional components involved like how to handle losses and big wins since both will affect your emotions and decisions.

The good news is it is getting easier and easier to make your interests and passions fit with your work. The world is wide open and waiting for you to choose the life you want to live.
